Places to Send Donations for Katrina Victims

Post by Yasmeen »

Hey everyone, I just got this announcement from Pete and wanted to share:
Hey Fellow Climbers - If you're interested in donating to the relief efforts, I want to toss out the name of a really good place to send donations - Gulf Coast Teaching and Family Services - this is a non-profit organization that does everything from foster care to housing to work with folks with disabilities, etc. The organization's facilities in the New Orleans area are devistated and they are doing what they can to provide assistance to their clients and to everyone else around. While donations to Red Cross, etc. are great, this organization is a locally based nonprofit that knows the community, its needs, etc. They have an office in Baton Rouge as well and are working to coordinate efforts from that office. I do some grant writing and related work with a company that has had an ongoing relationship with this organization for many years, so I'm sending out the call for help - any donation is a big help. If you're interested in helping out, checks should be made out to Gulf Coast Teaching and Family Services with "katrina relief" in the subject line. They can be mailed to:

Mr. Rick Hardie, Chief Financial Office
Gulf Coast Teaching & Family Services
5850 Florida Blvd.

Baton Rouge, LA 70806

Phone: (225)201-0696

Also, for those in Lexington, I was told today by a co-worker that Lowe's is matching donations for victims.

thanks yasi - if you want any info on this organization, their integrity, intent, etc. feel free to pm me - i think it would be a really good place to send donations and can vouch for the good works that this organization does.

also, in the greater lexington area, the central ky area we're expecting refugees from the storm in the next several days - here's some info if you can help out in any way:
LexLinc, a local non-profit organization providing community collaborative support in public-private efforts to serve members of the community and the Central Kentucky Housing and Homeless Initiative have been asked to spearhead the effort to provide as many volunteers from our community as can be assembled for this relief effort.

We are asking you to help!
