red river richard

Post by dr. nasty »

We used to climb with a volunteer for the rescue dept. down in the red. His name was Richard Brashear. At least that's my guess at his last name. Has anyone seen this guy lately? He's an old hillbilly from the area and he lives on Ensure. Last time I saw him was about 10 years ago.

I remember his trunk full of gear and those North Face pants he never took off. Haven't seen him in years either.

That's the guy. He never changed those pants. He always used to complain about how bad he felt when he ate.

Richard was a great man to climb and be on rescues with back in the early 90's. Him and I bolted our first lines together and had some great times doing the rock climbing thing. Richard worshiped aid climbing and was well read on the subject. The guy was a machine tool madman, he made some wicked aid gear and bolting tools back in the day.

I haven't seen him in years. His pants you all speak of were like his good luck charm and he loved his vegtables. He used to eat at the "Kantucky Diner" in Winchester and he always ordered a plate of cooked vegtables. He stayed skinny that way I must say!

If anyone knows how to get in contact with him please be sure to let me know. I would love to kick back a few cold Ale-8's with him and catch up.

Best wishes to all,
Tony

I saw him down in Jackson (Breathitt Co) a few years back. He was driving around in that old stretch Pontiac smoking Camel no filters.
He was one double talking hill billy, though. He was everyone's best friend.
Remember when Porter did a freedom of information act request for all the correspondance the FS recieved regarding bolting on the FS land? Richard turned out to be an infiltrating FS agent planted within the climbing community. He was slagging everyone and totally biasing the FS against climbers.
