been thinking about whether or not getting back into the gym to lift once or twice a week would be good or bad for climbing... what'cha think? if it is a good idea, what exercises do you most recommend? i don't want to bulk up too much, just increase strength. your experience? ideas? comments? thanks for the feedback.

You need to get and read the book "Training for Climbing" by Eric Horst: http://www.trainingforclimbing.com/

I've found that doing pushups as well as bench press helps aleviate tendonitis in the elbows and also improves my mantle strength. I only do light benchpress cause otherwise you'll get huge which doesn't translate well into climbing strength.

Pushups and dips are really good. Also, shoulder stabilazation pushups (with one hand on a ball) are really good as well. Other then those, just basic lifts without a lot of wieght would be a good thing. You going to LAC? They have pretty good personal trainers there, or I could show you a circuit or two if you want.

There is another climbing/training book coming out soon as well. Something like the "self coached climber"?

If your elbows are already troubling you is it to late? Could I ease into doing a few pushups a week?

Pete, I will never climb with you again if you beef up like that. I'll just be too confused on whether you're male or female.

i'd scare away my own family... and i'd have a hard time finding a harness to fit over those legs... and it'd really be tough to climb in that bikini... so i think you're safe meadows!
