Speedin'

Post by Steve »

Heads up for all you Yankees, and others driving to the Red this weekend.
Word is the law is running radar around the I64 / I75 split on the east side of Lexington all weekend long. Part of the ramped up Holiday patrols. You've been warned.
I see they are still lopping off mountains in Eastern Kentucky. Electricity isn't cheap.

Speaking of knowing where cops are, we have a list from KSP on the location and times of all the checkpoints during the holiday season. I'm still little confused as to why they release this type of info.

I had an interesting conversation with some cops in St. Louis this fall. While traveling the speed limit through downtown we were singled out and pulled over. Both cops walked straight up to me on the passenger side and said,
" Sir, we need you to step out of the vehicle."
"Is there something wrong Officers?
"We're with the St. Louis drug intervention task force and we want to know how much dope you have in the car?"

Seriously, they sound endearing don't they. They go on to explain they pulled us over for having a spare tire on top of the vehicle. They said, "some people hide dope in their spare tire, you got any dope in there?" They also wanted to know why we were going to California to climb rocks when there were probably a number of rocks already in Kentucky. While we were waiting for the dog to show up, I took the liberty of showing them my Yosemite guidebook. I really wanted a photo of me showing climbing pics to two cops on the side of the road with the blue lights flashing in the background. Then something more interesting must have happened accross town cause they took off... With my friend's driver's liscence! Leave it to the highway patrol.

No, I don't think they are. Doesn't change the fact that I'm normally the one bent over and they're holding all the lube. (so to speak)

I had a very similar situation transpire in Utah the year before. If you ask the cop, I was pulled over for failure to properly change lanes. (I WAS using my turn signal) If you ask me, I was pulled over for driving through Kanab at 4:00 am. He asked permission to search the vehicle, I declined. He said he was going to bring in the dog. When the dog showed up, he asked permission to search the vehicle with the dog. I told him I didn't really think I had a choice. He explained that he thought he would find something but decided he didn't want to violate my rights to find it. So then he let me go. Go figure, he must have been bored.

They always want to search me. I always try to decline. That tends to get them even more interested.

I'm glad you decline. I wish everyone would decline, whether they have anything in your car or not (which is irrelevant).

Dammit I hate to see our civil rights being eroded right now, all in the name of the "war on terrorism." People who say "i have nothing to hide" and grab their ankles are just missing the whole point.

Yep, I am one of those "Criminals" that refused to allow the law to search my truck without probable cause during a roadblock at the Nada Tunnel. He kept asking and I kept saying no. He ended up letting me go, because he had no reason to search me.
