Does anyone know of a bug repellent which works on the deer flies? They've gotten really bad this year.

Yes. Raid. It's really fun to watch them sail gracefully to their death after you spray them.

Nothing works. Use the most potent DEET you can get, and apply often. They are terrible every year right around the fourth of July, but will be gone in about a week to 10 days. The best trick I have found is to put on bug spray, but don't let you friends know you've got any. The flies then swarm your friends and not you. However, if everyone puts on bug spray, it's not as effective.

When one gets after you, slow down until some people catch up to you and then rush away. Works every time.

Deer flies aka "horse flies" are the HUGE looking flies. If you are ever in water they'll attack you too. http://ohioline.osu.edu/hyg-fact/2000/2115.html
