I'm going down to Mammoth Cave in a couple weeks for the weekend and was thinking about trying to climb down there. Does anyone have any recommendations? I've looked around on the web and found a place called Dismal Rock, anyone been there?

I was in Morgantown for a month or so and discovered Shanty Hollow Lake which is not far from the Cave at all. It has some bolted routes (short, maybe 30-50 feet) and I saw a few trad lines. It looked like there was some bouldering as well. Maybe worth looking at. I didn't have anyone to climb with so I just hiked around. It's a scenic area though, worth just hiking around

I've heard there is some climbing along the Green River. No details though.

What the heck else could you do with a fishing pole? Yes fishing. It's a perfect place,or it was when I was there. I hadn't started climbing yet. I heard the climbs are down below the dam. There was someone on here that knew the place. You might dig through the old posts.

Dismal is right by the dam. It is a little chossy for sure. I didnt care to much for the climbing there. The river is right below the main wall. I guess it better than nothing, if you are in the area.
