Blue Ford Probe

Today's update is brought to you by KY, not only a state's initials, but also a good lubricant for when you bend over and take it in the , well you know...

Yesterday while scoping out some potential choss at Sore Heel, we finished up early and decided to bail. Low and behold as we reached the crest of the Motherlode hill the infamous blue Ford Probe came strolling down the center of the road (not even willing to accomodate two cars the bastards). Since they almost broke into my car twice last week, they were easily recognizable.

We stopped at the top of the hill, and so did they, both cars watching each other. We decided to turn around and follow them and they didn't roll down the hill until after we were out of sight. We busted a Uey and so began the adventure. Long story short they drive all the way to the old road when you used to be able to drive up to Drive By, and then work their way out towards the Motherlode since their vehicle cannot make it through the creek. Hell I'm surprised they took it to Sore Heel. There was no one at Sore Heel or Drive By, but after them getting tired of us following them, there was a confrontation at the Drive By/Bob Marley parking lot. Turns out they know exactly how to get to all the crags and how far they are from the parking lots. Real friendly folk once you sit down and talk to them.

No specific confrontation was made about the break-ins but it was clear to both parties that we knew what they were doing and they knew why we were following them. It's a male and a female and damn were they scared. Especially as I'm taking digitals of their car as they roll up to us and am writing down their plates as my buddy is yelling out the window right next to them "Hey write down those bastards' plates".

We parted ways at the motherlode, which had the only car at it and wrote the Probe's plate number on the back windshield of the truck in case it was broken into later in the day. The message was clear and the guy is spooked for sure, but I don't think he has any intentions of stopping. Oh and after speaking to them for awhile, I doubt you have anything to fear about them checking this board (or carrying a gun for that matter).

I left last night for Michigan for my brother's wedding and so I will not be around to help stake out for a little while, but I suggest as a nonconfrontational method is to print up a flyer with their physical description and the car w/ plate number and tape it to a tree at all three parking lots, advising climbers to not leave their cars if they see them and to take photos if they can. So here's the description:

Blue Ford Probe w/ KY plates 580 LAJ
Male: Shorter, stocky with brown hair and brown goatee
Has tatooed words on his inner right bicep

Female: Shorter, stocky has dirty blond/light brown hair Lots of freckles on her.

One last thing - a State Trooper responded when this exact car was seen breaking in at Roadside last Wednesday and the plates were grabbed then, the man was identified and is out on parole. The trooper was suppose to have picked the man up yesterday, but aparently didn't as you can obviously tell. Good luck with the stakeout and I highly recommend the flyer idea which will please both camps on this board as being blunt, but not confrontational. I'll be back soon to continue the semi-weekly updates.

As Peter Griffin would say, "That's Freakin' Sweet!"

If you wanted to get a name and address, you could call the Lee county clerk's office. You could just say that you saw this vehicle with a for sale sign on it and you want to know who it belongs to.

Great job man!
I'd say they are getting the message (if they heed it is another story), and really think the flyer idea is the way to go now, as well as continued survielance if folks are still interested.

Pretty ballsy move following them around too.
So they weren't intimidating?
You said they seemed pretty scared.

that's really great to hear man. i second the notion of flyers at the parking lots but i'd say it would depend if you want to wait until they're caught. but again, thanks for getting the info on those guys. i'm sure it'll help.

Another climber has made contact with the person at the Lexington Herald-Leader who wrote the article on the Newtons. That author is recommending we take this to the court system through the Commonwealth's Attorney Tom Hall who is not afraid of the Newtons. What we would need to do this is as much firm information as possible and people who are willing to come forward and make a positive identification. Anyone who has been broken into needs to be encouraged to file a police report.

i was thinking of having some flyers made and laminated to put in the parking lots in the southern region with wolfe county numbers as well as what to do with your car (ie: take everything, leave it open). is it ok to post those things down there? any thoughts on them?

by the way, wolfe county sheriff's office for anyone that needs to file a report:

606-668-3569

Just spoke with Sheriff Pelfrey in Lee Co. and he confirmed that he is very familiar with the male individual and that he is out on parole. I will continue to follow-up with law enforcement, etc.

What is the number for the Lee County sheriff and/or state trooper office in Lee so I can file a police report?
