Since the original post changed to the presence of an indoor gym in Wilder, I figured I'd change the subject. At any rate, I swung by the movie theater/DQ/rec center area on my way home and found nothing. however, my search was not thorough because I was in a big hurry to get home (Omaha Steaks had been at the apt office for a day now and teh dry ice was quickly fading) and teh sky was falling on me, complete with the fog from Gorky Park, so I couldn't see a damn thing. I'll try to take another swing tomorrow before I leave town. Chester, any idea roughly where I should be looking? Near the theater? Further East towards the Shell?

I stopped by the rec center today to look at the climbing facilities...heh...um...well...there's SOMETHING to climb. There is a half-pillar, approx 25 ft hight, with 4 climbing faces about 3-4 ft wide. I asked someone if there was any plan to expand the climbing surface and she said she didn't believe so. So, for now, my option for opening a rock gym in N. KY is still w/o competition.

There used to be a climbing gym in N. KY. It lasted about six months.

It was in the back of some gymnastics center. Jill and I went to a comp there once. I forgot to bring a pair of shorts, I had to climb in jeans. I like climbing in jeans, I should do it more often.

Yeah, I found the name listed on the web and tried to find it...I was told it closed a few years ago. Part of THAT problem was location...the place was not easy to find, and fairly well out of the way to just about anybody. The places I've looked at are much more centrally located to NKU, Thomas Moore and civilization. I've event thought how good a place it would be to build in this low-density commercial land near my apt behind Thomas Moore...lots-o-land, easy access to 275, etc, etc..

Putting together a gym gets expensive really quickly. Even if you put up a few thousand square feet of really cheap industrial building at $40 per sq ft, climbing surface can cost $20 to $50 or more per sq. ft. and so on. It would be tough (but not impossible) to get something good up and running for less than $500,000.
