why do some of you have personal web pages? i can understand something informative like this site or a bunch of cool pictures like wes, but why would you create a website about your family and what you do and how to contact you? for those of you that do this, does anyone ever contact you? any stalkers? i think you're nuts.

for me...i have a lot of friends all over the country...and a lot of family all over the country...

so a web page is a great storage space and a great central location for all the above to view pictures...

it's a lot easier than sending 2-3 pictures everytime someone asks

family & friends all over want to see my baby & i can just give them the url. why are wes's pictures cool & mine aren't? i think my daughter is pretty freakin cute & if i want to plaster her picture all over the internet then i will.

why do you care anyway?

fair explanations. i'll buy it.

i'm just an independent do-gooder trying to lookout for the wellbeing of people like you (diggum) and llr. i'd hate to hear about some freak stalking you and your families you know. what do you care?

For better and for worse, I got to see the web-as-we-know-it from it's birth. (Yeah, I know that Tim Berners-Lee really invented the WWW at CERN, but I'm talking about what happened when that lanky, dull guy down the hall from me (Marc Andreessen) in Hopkins Dorm wrote the first graphical web browser at U of IL) If you think that 'personal' web pages are bad now, you should have seen the first generation of them - bad stuff happened back when only Computer Science folks knew how to hand code HTML. Think of a whole page enclosed in <center></center>, and the only photos on the page are scanned-in photos of the 'author's' 'girlfriend'! And, yes, things got much, much worse when those jerks at Netscape introduced the blink tag! [shudder]

Actually Matt makes a good point. There are tons of freaks out there. About six months ago some woman down loaded pictures of another family's baby. She kept telling everyone that she had given birth and showed the baby pictures around. Turns out, she was planning on stealing their child. Pretty freaky stuff...not to alarm anyone.
