Good Summer Trad Crag

Post by pawilkes »

I'm trying to find a crag to climb at this summer that doesn't get too much sun (ie is only 85 instead of 95 degrees) with some good 5.7 to 5.10 trad lines. Looks like Pebble Beach gets too much sun to fit the bill although the climbing there looks like it'd be right in my range. Any suggestions?

Also, if anyone wants to start climbing easy trad stuff let me know, I'd love to have someone to climb with.

How far of a walk is it to these places? My knee doesn't like too long/steep of hikes period, especially one with a heavy pack on. Sorry for all the restraints.
Sand inhibits the production of toughtosterone, so get it out and send.

What she said. And you can MTB most of the way to IC and Muscle beach. Hens nest isn't to bad, as long as you don't get lost.

Mountain biking is a good option but i'd have to make sure my partner had a bike too and since i don't climb with people regularly, that causes a coordination problem.

Muscle Beach is in the sun, though, right? I believe it's a good winter crag, not summer.

Ditto Hens Nest and Indian Creek. Also check out the Middle and Lower Small Walls and Tower.

You can chase shade or sun at Muscle, depending on what side of the cliff you start on.

Pebble isn't bad and has stuff in the range you indicate, which to me seems more important than the other considerations- the trees will help with the shade thing and you can always take a twelve pack for inbetween burns and the bridge area is an adequate swimming hole.
