Dear Abby, I'm sick of people trashing people from Ohio...

Post by hopelesslycruel »

Ok, folks....maybe I'm out of line since I'm not a regular to the forum, but I've got a complaint.

I'm getting sick of returning to my car after a nice day at the crag to find "go home ohio" or "buckeyes suck" written on my car. I'd like to think that a climber wouldn't do this to another climber, but I was at a crag this weekend that, frankly, nobody else would have been there except climbers. Does it matter where we're from in order to be accepted as a climber? All of my RRG climbing partners are from KY and they don't get it either. When you write this or some other rude remark on someone's car do you even know who you're attacking? I've climbed all over the world and "non-locals" are usually treated well and with respect. How do you think climbing businesses stay in business? If all they did was rely on locals they'd all go broke. How well do you think all of the climbers organizations would do if all the "buckeyes" and other non-kentucky folks decided to quit giving...Access Fund, AAC, RRGCC, etc...

What's the deal? Do you get harrassed when you climb out of state? How friggin' ignorant are you?

Now that I'm beginning to rant, I'll stop. I'd like to know if anyone else is sick of this crap. I'd also like to hear a defense for this practice if you can justify it without looking like some kind of climbing bigot.

thats funny, Ive never had anything like that written on my car. I have had a huge penis drawn once but that was a long time ago, and I got him back by splashing mug all through his truck. More than likely though, it is all the Michiganers doing this nonsence  .

Not to sound like a bitch, but maybe there is someone who doesn't like you as a person...not as someone from Ohio? That's all I can think of.

I know that noone I climb with would do anything like that & I'm really sorry it happened. Bad karma folks.

I don't think anybody would have associated the car in question with me personally. It wasn't my 'signature' ride...

Could have just been some random idiot, but I've seen things like this before--even on other peoples cars.

Dude I've been hitting the Red for over 10 years and have never seen or heard of this shit. My guess is someone is messing with you, but if this is some sort of new trend that some narrow minded fucktard believes is necessary they can kiss my bank account that shuttles cash to the local community year around.
And further more I always wanted to see what a #2 camalot would look like; over cammed in some locals mouth.

i am yet to get nasty cheesehead comments on the subbie but i don't really pay that much attention. this isn't a great place to look for the perpatrators though, people on here aren't that type generally. this past weekend had hords of people from all over, i'm sure the average level of friendliness between climbers was down because of it.

You are whining about writing on your car? At least you didn't come back to smashed windows and stolen stuff.

the break ins certainly don't preferentially target those fucking buckeyes... oops, I mean our Ohio brothers to the north.

I'm not saying someone else on here hasn't had something bad happen. I fully realize that writing on your car isn't a felony. The point is that is still wasn't right. I'm not on here looking for sympathy or an apology--I'm just curious if this is an isolated incident or a common occurance. Maybe even get some climbers to realize that no matter where we're from or what our personal beliefs are--it all boils down to the fact we're all climbers and have some common ground. No matter how trivial you think it is, my feelings were hurt. Maybe I assume too easily that climbers are generally good folks.
