Hello,
Never been to the Red -- excited about being there on 28-30. I will be arriving late on Saturday night and don't want to hike miles in the dark to find a safe spot.
Where is an easy place?
Rest Area in Slade?
Miguel's? What happens if it's packed?
Is there anywhere close to Fortress?
Will be looking for a partner that doesn't mind me doing some easy trad. Also interested in Sport and seconding/TR. (have gear).
Thanks.

you can probably find a spot at miguels sat pm - you might have to sleep in your car though.

There is a place within walking distance of Fortress.
New as of last year, maybe the fall before last year...
It is right past 77 (which takes you to Fortress parking), on the right.
Lots of spots, don't know how crowded it gets, or the cost, never stayed there.

Cloud Splitter is cool to camp on top of. It even has a cave inside it that opens up into a hole in the wall. The cave is narrow at one point so you have to turn your head one direction as you progress. The moss glows in the dark inside the cave.

You can camp between the creek and the road on your way to Long Wall, you need a pass which is $3 per car and can be purchased at Shell.

Bat guano glows in the dark.

Last weekend the parking lot at Miguel's had cars parked in lines between the rows, but it thinned out a lot after they closed. But if you can't find any place to park, I'd suggest just sleeping in your car at the rest area.
