Ancient cultures have always used various means of self-denial to achieve particular heightened states of awareness that lend themselves to insight. I think I have achieved a similiar state by using sleep deprivation.
Life takes on very surreal qualities when denied the simplest of things. For instance: I had an epiphany last night about the absurdity of how reliant we are on technology for entertainment when production took a hit from a power surge and left me praying that everything rebooted without error. AND then I realized that we were doing Huey Useless and the News and just how important he is to the GRAND SCHEME OF LIFE.
lots of stress + little sleep over one week= altered reality
Shelter, food, and sleep are really everything that humans require but I've decided that I can sleep when I'm dead.

hallucinations and a virus? two great tastes that taste great together?
Fortunately, I am not a truck driver so those pesky hallucinations won't have any detrimental traffic effects.
It's funny how one moment I will be completely lucid and the very next will find me swimming through some cosmic multi-verse.

I have never required a great deal of sleep. Four-five hours always kept me going. Since my illness though, I must have six or seven hours to function.
What I love about running is you can meditate while running. It's a peaceful place.
