Muir Valley Parking

While removing the tree that fell across the Muir Valley access road last weekend, the gentleman who owns the cleared parking area at the top of the hill (not Rick) asked that we climbers not stay too long carousing after dark. They do live up there, after all, and they'd rather their peace and quiet not be disturbed. Just wanted to give everyone a heads up.

I'm a little puzzled with this info, so let me clarify a bit.

1. Muir Valley property is pretty well defined as the green and red shaded area on this map: http://www.muirvalley.com/map-detail.html

2. The parking area at the end of the road is not Muir land, but borders it to the northwest of the main road. Where the main road turns from gravel to dirt, and all the land to the east, IS Muir property.

3. The owner of the area used temporarily by Muir climbing visitors is owned by Mary Tackett, who has kindly allowed temporary parking on the flat spot next to the road. Eventually, when she starts to build a cabin, you will no longer be able to park here. I'm not sure who the gentleman is who Cassio talked to -- it may have been Mr. Tackett.

4. Recent visitors to Muir are aware of the construction going on around the main parking lot (which IS on Muir land) shown on the map. We are presently putting in new roads, trails, a maintenance building, and enlargening the existing main parking lot. Hopefully, the expanded parking lot will be finished within 30 days.

5. At the time the parking lot is finished, parking will no longer be allowed on the Tackett's land at the end of the graveled main road.

6. As for "carousing after dark"... heck, for Liz and me, that's our favorite activity! Seriously, there are no permanent residents on the road at this time. There ARE some rather curious uh... "structures" (Kentuckyesque in style) being erected that may be occupied soon. Nevertheless, in respect for our neighbors' peace and quiet, we would ask that climbers leaving the Valley late, do so quietly.

For some reason, all of these structures have been built within spitting distance of the road. So, please drive slowly.

Thanks. Please PM me with any specific questions.
