Once again, I am in need of some help buying gear. Looking for a 60m rope between $100-$160 for use roughly twice/week.
Do I need dry or standard? What diameter would be best? This will be my first rope purchase as I've been using a hand-me-down so any advice is appreciated.

dry treatment lasts a little longer sheathwise - it's also nice when you have to wash the rope and climb on it the next day or so. stearling/bluewater make great ropes for the climbing in the red. i love mammut ropes but they aregenerally too expensive. talk to rs and try to get one discounted they usually will.

I luv Mammut ropes. I bought mine from Galyons/ dicks. They dont sell them any more. I payed 82.00 for a 60m / 10.5 rope. If I were you I would Check out ebay or go to Quest in the summet and ask for Brian, he owns the place and is a pretty cool guy.

Dry treatment is OK, but not really needed for climbing in the red - it is more geared toward alpine/ice. I have owned several sterling ropes, and have never been disapointed. You might look at the 10.2 or 10.3 line. Good stuff. Miguels has sterling, and you might check with RedRiverOutdoors, as Matt can sometimes get really good deals.
And washing ropes? Who does that?

I had that rope and it sucked. I couldn't get it through my gri-gri and those belaying me with an ATC had problems too. It swelled so much that it was nothing but a stiff cord. Some other guy had the same problem.rockclimbingdude wrote:I luv Mammut ropes. I bought mine from Galyons/ dicks. They dont sell them any more. I payed 82.00 for a 60m / 10.5 rope. Stop by the shop. We have some Bluewater 10.2's coming in that will be pretty cheap.
Unless I am way off on your rope needs I wouldnt waste the extra $ buying a dry treated rope. Use the extra $ saved and buy some more gear or take a weekend trip.
