Route setters of Lexington:
On Sat. May 14th, CT is hosting a Setter's Comp. Unlike a typical comp, this is not for climbers, it is for setters. Competitors will set problems and be judged on aesthetics, creativity, and grade accuracy. Letters have been sent to the major Oh/In/Ky gyms, but since there is currently no Lexington gym, this is an open invitation to Lexington route setters. Due to space limitations, we can only accept 25 competitors. PM me (kato) for registration and format information. Registration will be $45, and prizes will be $300/1st, $200/2nd, and $100/3rd.

For non-setters, there will be a boulder comp on Sun. May 15th. Competitors will get to climb the previous days' problems and sample the best setting that area gyms have to offer. Votes will be collected for a "People's Choice" award for the best problem(s). Gear prizes will be awarded to the boulderers.

where can we get more info- like how many problems can we set? How long do we have to work?

Competitors will set three problems, selecting three of these four categories: juniors (i.e. height dependant), beginners, intermediate, and advanced. They will draw lots for wall space and have about two hours to set each problem (this may be adjusted at comp time).

I assume the setters would not be allowed to compete at the comp the next day?

They will have their own category at the bouldering comp.

That's what you call management.

no kidding, usually setters get paid to set not pay other people to set. Pretty soon my boss here at work will make me start paying them to work here.

Alright, alright. It was inevitable that someone would bring this up, that's why there are <b>substantial cash prizes</b>. It's just a little experiment and a chance for route setters to get some recognition and bragging rights. We still plan to pay our setters after the comp.

Cool idea. Anyway, how do you pick the holds? That's where I get my much of my inspiration... What if I wanted to use a bunch of holds that somebody else also wanted to use?
