what's in a NAME?

Post by vic »

Sore Heel is an area, and it is NOT a crag.
It's like saying "...the route at the Red River Gorge was fantastic...".
Personally, I don't really mind the mistake, but for all the new people coming to the Red, it might be worth while to clarify a few things.
There are a few crags located in the Sore Heel area.
There is a parking located in the Sore Heel area.
Sore Heel is a Hollow.
Sore Heel Hollow is located in the Preserve (yes, the southern region if you must, since after all, it is located South of the Red River Gorge and since it's not even located inside the Red River Gorge).
The Preserve is owned and operated by the RRGCC.
There are a many Hollows located inside the Preserve.
There are often more than one crag inside each Hollow.
The Preserve used to be called the Murray Property.
It was renamed the PMRP - I have personally been calling it the Preserve to remind people that it was a preserve, but now that you have a little more fact, I guess you can call it what you want...

It would be nice if we all called it the same thing though...
What do you think?

I ignorantly refer to it as the Coalition property. It would be nice if it had a more official type name.

I dunno, but I like your sig vic. :?

Sore Hell Hollow starts just past the lode.
Here are some crags that are in the area:
The Gallery
Volunteer's Wall
Private Playground
Shady Grove

Coal Bank Hollow can be reached by driving approximately 3 miles past the lode. This main road will take you there - this main road's name is Bald Rock Fork Road. The more sensitive way to make your way to Coal Bank is to take fixer Road.
Here are some crags that you will find in the vacinity:
Far Side
Gun Sight
Dark Side
Solar Collector

Hope this helps a little.

Sore Heel is a Hollow at the Preserve. Really. The story goes a little like this: Some poor sole got a nail stuck on his heel and died. Maybe his relative got one too at Muir Valley ???
Anyway, don't just take my words for it. Ask someone who has been attaching names to all the crags, etc... like Captain Static.
So, Captain, tell us the real story... please.
