arena and oil crack rock

Post by cowboy »

I'm pretty new to the southern region and was wondering why these crags are closed? When will they open? Is it the same old oil company bullshit?

They are still closed and no one knows when they'll open and it is the same old oil company stuff. search the forums on the issue and you'll find several posts... also check out the rrgcc.org site, espcially their forum for info....

same 'ol legal/access stuff. be patient it'll play out in the end. meanwhile you might want to check out some of the newer areas that have opened on the murray property and muir valley. see also rrgcc.org for updates.

Check this out:

http://www.redriverclimbing.com/RRCGuideV2/search.php

if you ignore the text box at the top, uncheck stuff like "trad", "aid", etc. (assuming you are looking for sport routes) and type in "5.8" and "5.9" for the 'Rating between' boxes, then go to the bottom of the page and hit "Ask the crag sloth" you'll get all the 5.8/9 sport routes at the Red (pretty much). Yes, a lot of them are at closed areas, but there are tons of options.

I'm also pretty new to RRG climbing. I've been the Muir a few times, but I'm not sure what crags are part of the Murray property. Are they listed in the online guidebook?

Someone once said to me: The rock isn't closed for ever - it never is.
The rock is just close for now, perhaps for this generation, perhaps for longer, but eventually, the rock will be here and we won't.
Sorry for the "change" of wording, but you get the picture.
