Ray and I are planning our honeymoon in Italy for this June/July. We want to do some climbing and sight seeing equally but we don't even know where to begin. I'm thinking we should fly into Paris because it's direct and chill there for a day. Is it a crazy city or a nice place to chill? Would Florence be a better place to get our bearings? I believe it's going to be too warm to climb at Fontainebleau.
Also, anyone got any good beta on climbing in the Dolomites? Anywhere else?
We know we want to hike through Cinque Terra but that's really the only thing we have planned. Climbing at Sardenia sounds appealing too but we've heard there's some kick ass bouldering up in the high altitudes.
Any info appreciated!
Italy!
Sardinia is definitely worth doing some further research. I was there about 10 years ago and had not yet been introduced to climbing, but was with someone who was a climber and she was drooling pretty much everywhere we went. At that time there was a decent guidebook for the island and I think it has been updated since then. I also recall seeing some great pics of Sardinian climbing in Rock & Ice or Climbing not too long ago. It is a very nice place to visit, nice people, and should be great weather that time of year, although maybe a bit warm. From what I remember it is similar climate-wise to Southern California, so very little rain during the summer. Only downside is probably cost with the crap exchange rate these days.

Totally unbelievable climbing is located in the island of Corsica.
It's directly in front of the French / Itlaian border.
With less than an hour away, it's like finding "paradise" when it comes to climbing, swiming, drinking, and much more...

Man, there is this guy I met in Hueco last year from Itay. He was showing me movie clips and pics from the place that looked incredible. Kinda like rumbling bald / G-mom in a crazy cool setting.
Maybe Sandy can use some of her b.com contacts? I would post something over there, just get ready for all kinds of grief, but there are a couple guys from Itay that boulder pretty hard and might be able to hook you two up.
And there is that deep water solo thing over there somewhere. Maybe check out Dosage, vol II?

That's a great offer, allah. We'll definitely take you up on that but no rush right now. I just checked for plane tickets and one is $2200 right now! We're going to wait and have our honeymoon in the fall instead when they're $600. Is that bad? Married in June...honeymoon four months later?
Keep any info coming, though!

Does he have a strange bear claw like appendage protruding from his neck? He kep petting it.
Do NOT bicycle in Italy. Trust me on this one. Stay inside a car if you're near a street and if you have to cross one, sprint. Even if there are no cars in sight. Fucking Italians are the most insane and worst drivers on earth. (ok, at least they're by far the worst I've experienced)
I do hope you're planning on doing short half days of climbing. It is, after all, a honeymoon. You should mostly be screwing, right?
