yesterday was crazy.
We planned on doing just the first 8 pitches of Epinephrine, basically to the top of the chimneys and then rapping down. It was super sunny and nice when we started up. got through the first chimney pitch and stuff and was at the belay for the 5th pitch and it started to sprinkle.
It then passed and Keith decided to keep going. It started to Hail on his way up the chimney and then stopped a bit again, anyways, he gets to the belay, and I start up...it was sprinkling again a bit by then so the plan was for me to climb the pitch and then we'd rap from there instead of finishing.
Well, I was about 40 or 50ft in to the pitch and it started to piss rain. we looked up the canyon and it was bad. Keith said...we better get the hell out of here. He lowered me to the anchor, he rapped off and cleaned the gear and then we started to rap down.
The whole cliff was turning into a waterfall and the chimneys were funnling the water down etc. So we are rapping down these full 60m rappells. the ropes were wet and I was soaked. it was cold. my hands were so cold. you have no idea. screaming barfies and all, barely able to hold on to the rappell line.
anyways, on the second last rappel the rope gets stuck in this crack/ledge and we end up cutting it (an old retired rope we brought up for rapping down). once we evened out the ropes...we JUST had enough to get to the bottom of the canyon where our packs/boots were and the canyon was filling with water. it was nuts...a really narrow gully where all the water from the surrounding 2500ft cliffs in Black Velvet Canyon was washing into.
So we get down and the 'dry' river bed that we had hiked up was a full on fast running river. I've got video of the whole thing. it was insane. I was wading in up to my ass in places. the water was freezing and the canyon was filling up fast.
We were most worried about a flash flood in the canyon and not being able to get out to the main trail. We were soaked and cold and it could have been pretty bad. Keiths hands were so cold that he could barely turn the truck on.
my legs and arms were frozen solid. It felt like all my muscles were contracted they were so hard. I was a little sore this morning.
it was pretty fun to say the least.

That's scary as hell! I've been down in that gulley when it was dry. There are some big assed boulders in there that have been polished smooth and clearly moved around by the water with some frequency. Yikes! That video sounds like it could be amazing, in a frightening kind of way.a really narrow gully where all the water from the surrounding 2500ft cliffs in Black Velvet Canyon was washing into.

(By the way, I'm watching the film version of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. As your attorney, I advise you to take the acid.)
