Public library in Stanton

Post by haas »

Does anyone know if Stanton has a public library? Is so, where is it?

There sure is. If go into stanton and take a right at the kroger. I believe then you turn left at a sign for pelfrey's car wash onto an alley of sorts to cut over a street. When it t's at the street the library will be right there across the street on your right. I'm pretty sure those directions are complete, if not the place is so small someone will tell you where it's at.

If you need a closer library, there is a brand new one in Campton, KY. It is on the east side of KY 15 about an eighth mile north of Campton. They have four computers on the net. Good place to check email while down in the Rogers/Torrent/Southern Region, Murray-Pendergast areas. It's actually the nicest looking building in Wolfe County, and I'll withhold further comment. 8)

I heard that Slade was going to have a library but someone stole the book.

What I love about running is you can meditate while running. It's a peaceful place.

Can I tack a couple other Stanton questions on here? I've only stopped there to gas up and buy snacks before heading to the gorge. Do they have a hotel there? Are there any good places to eat?

We've found Abner's Motel in Stanton to be a fairly decent place to stay and reasonably priced. Take the exit down to the street and turn toward town. Go a couple blocks and turn right at the second stoplight. There's also a nice mom-'n-pop restaurant nearby. Not sure how to tell you where it is. Someone else on this forum probably will. There are also two nice home style food places in Campton.

Campton Inn, down the parkway a piece, is nice, but kinda pricey. They want 60 bucks a night, year round. No off season discount. A good place to stay off season is the Natural Bridges State Park Hemlock Lodge, if you can get the discount. 39 a night. Same off season price for the Red River Inn near Miguel's.

And, of course Mark and Cathy's Torrent Falls B & B is excellent, and Cathy's breakfasts are spectacular. Not cheap, though.

There needs to be a place in the Red like Jeff Kennedy's Climbers Hostel (his burned down last year.) He may be building a new one. Because most climbers are young and not fussy about accomodations, a place to bunk down and get a hot shower at say $15 to 20 a night would probably do well. Something in between a spot of ground at Miguels and the Hemlock Lodge in price.

Mark and Cathy have a "climber's cabin" that you can shoehorn in about eight climbers at, I believe, $150/175 a night. That divies up well, but you need to reserve it in advance. And as we know, climbers don't plan too far into the future.

Campton Parkway Inn doesn't charge extra for extra people. So, often last year Liz and I invited two to three friends share the room. Although we didn't "sublease" it, four climbers could, perhaps on this forum, get together and reserve a room there. That comes to $15 apiece for a nice room and a little breakfast.

Anybody know of a climber's hostel-type place in the Red?
