To provide a fitting memorial to John Bronaugh, the south crag in the Tantroft Hollow of Muir Valley, which has been tentatively referred to as the "5.10 Wall." has been formally named, "Johnny's Wall."

We believe this is the last place John and his family climbed in Muir Valley, and he really seemed to enjoy the routes on this particular crag. Tina gave her approval do this and suggested this name.

We are asking Ray, Jared, and Karla to include this updated info in the revised guides for the Valley.

An appropriate memorial plaque will be permanently mounted on Johnny's Wall this summer.

Sounds great! It will be done. Also, what will be the name of the brilliant orange wall across from the Great Wall? Did you have any ideas Rick?

I think that that is a fantastic idea. A tribute to a true selfless pioneer of the Gorge.

Speaking of that bright orange wall across from the Great Wall, what are the lines up there going at? I saw a few fixed ropes and then some draws down the cliff line aways. But what are those rated and are they open to climb?

Bec of the steepness of the routes at the bright orange wall, the grades are a little bit steep too. The routes range from hard 11 to who knows what.

As you pointed out, Stewy, there are a few fixed ropes and draws on the cliff. That's bec the development of this area is still underway - PLEASE DO NOT CLIMB IN THIS AREA - we have yet to establish trails and finish the routes. Most of it still has very brittle holds; loose rock is present everywhere, therefore making it unsafe to open the area for public climbing.

We will announce on this website (and muirvalley.com) as soon as the cliff is OPEN. For now, we would appreciate it if the climbers in Valley would stick to the established climbing areas.

THANKS! :D
