Anybody tested this one yet? I'm wondering if it would be beneficial for those of us who like setting routes (indoor/outdoor) using a self belay on a grigri.

I'm guessing the biner is designed to clip in around your waist belt and leg loops as opposed to through the belay loop, and then the rear (smaller) biner clips around the belt of the harness to keep the main part of hte biner upright and oriented correctly?

Not really sure what's going on there. If that is the case, then it would be safer EXCEPT that you would be triaxially loading the main biner (leg loop/waist belt/upward load force) Since in reality the leg loops would only generate slight force (just the weight of your legs and related forces) then maybe this would be a really good self belay biner. Might look into getting one. Who makes them?

Just for added friction then. I don't think it would really be a benefit for routesetting/bolting then. Its just for thin ropes and dicey situations like wet or icy ropes.

I have used one. Works pretty well when you need to manipulate heavy loads. It's a quick easy way to add some friction when lowering something heavy.

Yep. Looks like a rescue/heavy load thing. Actually, it looks like a toy for gear mongers. Some toys are real nice, though. Yay #5's!!!! (Anybody else remember how stupid it looked when it came out?)

I think I could definately come up with a marketing plan to sell those to gumbies, along with figure 8's.
