Looks like I'm probably headed down to Ohio University in Athens for grad school. Is there anyone at OU or in the area that climbs much? specifically in the red? Also, I saw that the rec center has a wall but the pics online weren't to great- how is it?
Thanks,
Ben

kick my ass for what? we all know the southern three quaters of michigan sucks for climbing. grand ledge=30' of crap
Moving to athens ohio will cut about 5 hours off my rrg drive, not to mention how much closer I will be to the new, senneca, etc.
the only down side is having to become a buckeye, oh god I thought i'd never have to bring myself to that....

Athens is a cool town. I was just out there today. There has to be a least some boldering out there. You can see lots of sandstone in the areas the paper companies are clearing in Vinton and Jackson Counties along 32. The wall at the Ping looks limited, but have never climbed it. Its this freestanding thing in the lobby. Good luck! Halloween is wild there and they get some snow. Can't be all that bad and you can bone up on yer Appelachieze while there.

Hey, are you up here in Athens already? I climb at the Red and New about half and half, and so do lots of other people so you should have no problem finding a partner. As far as I know, the girl I climb with and I are the only trad climbers here. So, if you want to get on some cracks if we get a warm weekend or later in spring, give me a call (597-8647), otherwise go to the wall any night and there should be a good amount of folks there. There's a decent amount of bouldering around here too.

Here is a link about bouldering in Hocking Hills:
http://www.rockcomps.com/states/ohio/bo ... ocking.htm and there is also bouldering at Lake Vesuvius and a potential for bouldering development at Paint Creek Lake (see
http://www.ohioclimbers.org). The Ohio Climbers Association, Inc. is currently looking for a new area representative for southeast Ohio climbing. The OCA is involved in promoting access for Ohio climbers in Ohio as well as in other areas frequented by Ohio Climbers. Please contact me if you are a climber living in the southeast Ohio area and would like to help us with access in this region of the State.
