Big crack at Solar Collector

Post by Danny »

Today I climbed that big crack just to the right of the sport routes and before the big rock house with the hand-crack in the roof. I heard a rumor that this has been climbed by someone but judging from the rock that was coming off I had doubts. Does anyone know if this has been done? In anycase it is a really cool route. Most of it is pretty easy like 5.6-5.7 but has some technical challenges and lots of variety all the way. Perfect for a newish leader looking for something slightly heady. The topout is a little harder and it was wet today which made it a little scetchy, but normally it would be cool -- probably 5.8-5.9 for the topout. It's also about 100-120' which is very cool. We had a 70 meter rope but a 60 might work given the stretch. I put a sling and quick link on a big, but unfortunetly, dead tree at the top and rapped off that. You can also go left about 50 feet and lower down to the anchors of a sport route.

Barry Broley did it about two years ago. I forget who was with him.
