does anyone have any experience resoling their own shoes with a resole kit? It seems like the cheaper way to go but is the work worth it, and how good is the resole generally when you are new to it?

It takes some experience. Get someone to show you how.

I sent mine to Fly'n Brian's Resoles and they came back looking like new. They cost me $60, which lots of folks will say is expensive, however this replaced the sole and rands. I will definitely send them back out to him when I need another resoling job.

I don't think you will be able to do a good job on your own. I takes a lot of practice and special equipment to do good job. Yosemite Bum does excellent work. They don't delaminate like some of the other re-soles I have had done at other locations. My last pair looked better after the re-sole than the factory original.
$40 for both rand and sole. He even gives discounts and 100% satisfaction guarantee.

I tried once to resole my shoes. Failed miserably. Send them out to someone who knows what they're doing, it's worth it.

I sent a pair of anasazi velcros to the rubber room. I was through the leather on both of the toes and the shoes looked like hell. They resoled them and they climb better than when they were new. It is like having a brand new, broken-in shoe. I sent them two more pairs and all together I spent almost as much for the three resoles that a new pair would cost retail. They do impressively good work.

I just got an email back from Bryan and he is back in business. I plan on sending my shoes out to him since he did such a great job on them the first time.
