San Antonio climbing?

Post by Zspider »

Is there anywhere to climb close to San Antonio, Texas? I probably wouldn't have the time to drive more than an hour or so outside of town. I'll be arriving on Sept. 20, going home on the 25th.

There's a bunch of small limestone crags, a lot of bouldering and toproping, some leading. The two best are Shavano Roof and Rolling Stone Wall. In all there's probably like 10 areas to climb at within an hours drive. The two above are roughly 10 minutes away. The guidebook for that area is Central Texas Limestone. PM me if you need specific driving directions to those places

I climbed there back in Feb, and I got some useful information off this website.

Thanks, guys. I will pm you on directions details for Shavano Roof and Rolling Stone, Haas. I did a quick check of the texasclimbers site and it's cool but I probably need to look closer because nothing in San Antonio jumped out at me.

Does anybody know where I can get a copy of the latest Central Texas Limestone guidebook that Haas mentions? It does cover the San Antonio area, right? I went to Amazon.com and all they had was an out-of-print copy of Texas Limestone II: A Climber's Guide, which was way old and going for over two times the original cover price.

Is there a climbing store in San Antonio? I'm trying to set myself up for some climbing when I travel down there in a couple weeks. I've got directions to Shavano Roof and Rolling Stone Wall from Haas, but nothing else. Maybe I'm not looking in the right spot, but I couldn't find anything about those areas or the San Antonio area in general from the texasclimbers site.

Thank you, ZSpider
