So today I was enjoying myself on Loosen Up and fairly certain of an onsight. I clipped the bolt, put my hand in the crack above it and looked for the next hold. In the next hold with his head peeking out was a freakin snake. Of course, I screamed and then took on the bolt while everyone laughed at me. So embarrassing!! What's even worse, it was only a garter snake. Can't they just stay on the ground and spook us when we're hiking? sheesh.

that happened to me on Strick 9 a couple years ago. I took a bit of a whipper, first time I actually took a real one on gear. I felt like such an ass and everyone just laughed

...A snake slithers into a bar and the bartender says, "I'm sorry but I can't serve you." "Ynot?" asks the snake. The bartender says, "Because you can't hold your liquor..."

Has anyone seen Take it to the Limit? Terrible movie base around climbing. In the end, at a toproping competition a competitor gets bitten by a rattler half way up the route. In the movie their is intense forshadowing in the way of a rattling sound. When the snake actually bites, its clearly a plastic/rubber snake launching at the climber. hilarious.

I was climbing on Hooky Pals when we were still able to climb at Oil Crack and had made my way up to the ledge about half way up. I moved up off the ledge and was looking for a place for my left foot. In my line of sight curled up on the ledge was a nice fat snake. I was well enough past it so I just kept on going. I believe it was a copperhead due to the size of it.
The scary thing for me thinking back on it is that I very well could have come up onto it instead of where I did on the ledge.
I hate surprises like that!
