We parked at the gate, well off the road on Sunday and hiked up to Pebble Beach.
When we got back, there was a total of 4 vehicles parked, all off the road.
We noticed one of the two "No Parking" signs had been uprooted from where it was near the gate and moved down further towards the black top and the parked cars.

I sent the follwing email to the FS and will post their reply when it comes:

"In regards to FS Road 9 being closed.
We were there this past weekend and parked well off the road.
When we got back to our vehicle we noticed one of the "No Parking" signs had been moved from near the gate towards the main black topped road and a couple of more cars were also parked here. All vehicles were well off the road.

The sign on the newly constructed gate says that the road is closed to motor vehicle traffic but foot travel is welcome.
Can you tell me where the public is expected to park if we want to access this closed road by foot?
I always thought that a person could park near a FS gate as long as they did not block access.

They dont want you back there because they are growing weed to help defer the cost of the Gladie Center......

Yeah, every time I see a washed out road or whatever, I always think about how much money must've been taken in from the overnight passes and how nice that new center is.

Tony and I went there to check it out back in June. We got there about an hour before it closed (on a weekday) and it was already locked up.
Seems like somebody isn't doing their job.

I'm not saying they aren't doing thier jobs. I know how slow government moves.
I am just confused as to wether/where a person is supposed to park if they want to travel the area on foot.

I stopped there on Sunday to pinch a loaf. Nice place.

I asked the FS where people are supposed to park and got this reply:

When you get to Forest Service road 9 to Indian Creek there will be a gate, on the right side of the road before the gate is a wide spot, we are allowing people to park there.

Does this conflict with what you saw, Jeff? I haven't seen the gate or the "wide spot" so I don't know. Seems like if the car is off the road, they shouldn't care...

hey, how long did the hike to Pebble Beach take you from the gate (and at what kind of pace)?

There is a spot on the right that might fit 3 cars if they are parked tight. The day I was there one car had that entire area taken up (yes it's small).
I parked behind this car, well off the road.
There were two other cars on the other side and one was not parked very well, kind of blocking a lane that goes down hill.

The no parking sign was relocated down between my car and the othe one on the right.

At any rate, all were well off the road, I have no idea who actually relocted the sign, no one had a ticket or warning, If we are limited to the "wide spot" then there is room for MAYBE 3 cars to park there at one time.

It took about 50 minutes to hike from our cars to the cliff. Casual pace, and nice not having any vehicles or rednecks (myself excluded of course).

Its a mile to the 9 a/b split.

It's pretty nice out 9b without all the car campers. I'm glad that area is getting a break.
