What up with Funkrock City?

On Sunday, I ran into a cool Canadian climber (Andre?). He wanted to climb at Funkrock city, but was thwarted by a small sign/ mini kiosk posted across from the parking area that said that the area was
closed to climbing. Does anybody know what's up? I have been meaning to call the Forest Service during office hours, but keep forgetting.

Worth looking into....have you checked with the RRGC?
Also what do you mean by "accross from the parking area"? Accross county road 715?

Yes, Steve, the supposed sign is on route 715
. I talked to the Stanton District office, and they weren't sure about it. A backcountry ranger who loves to climb at Funkrock is checking it out.

Alright Bashie, you got the right ranger on the case!

Good news
, Funkrock City is still open to climbing. It appears that some private citizen decided to build his own little kiosk and post "no-climbing" signs
. The good rangers of the Daniel Boone National Forest removed the sign today (Friday), and posted upcoming Forest Service events instead. I am really impressed by how quickly the Stanton District Rangers reacted; I only e-mailed them yesterday. They were on the ball. Hats off to the guys and gals in green.

scarecrow. look for the no climbing signs.
or the upcoming forest service events.
i wonder if the FS were as annoyed as the climbers only in the sense that someone else started to step on their turf? sort of like someone deciding independently to clear cut a trail through the woods...
way to go for the gs and gs in green.
