Big Bros

Has anyone had any experience with Big Bros? They seem like they would save weight on a rack for offwidth climbing. Are they easy to place? Are they worth the money? Or should I stay away from offwidths in the first place?

I think that's the beta for offwidths, at least according to Freedom of the Hills.

Big Bro's can be cool, but kinda hard to place, esp. in the red. Good to have, but not the first big gear to buy. You would be better served with a couple 4.5/5 camalots and/or 5/6 friends.

I got em all and I use em too. Wes is right. They are fussy to place. They are expensive. The 5 is really heavy. If you want to buy them, get the 3 and the 4.If the crack is big enough for them you can usually get both hands free to place.
I did lots of routes with just those two and the 4.5 and 5 BD cams.
Some of us like OW. God knows why. My arms are covered in rockrash right now.

I have the big camalots and the real big friend but i was wonering if big bros weighed less and might be more streamlined in offwidths. Most of what I have heard is one of two extremes: either "they're there great but tricky to place" - or - "the collect a lot of dust on your rack because you don't need then that much." I was looking to use them on routes like groundhog etc.

My very limited experience with them tells me that Wes and ynot are right. The big camalots have a wider range so for the economics cams first , Big Bros 2d. However , if you still use cannabis for medicinal purposes the big Big Bro makes a good bong with a little duct tape.

Big Bros suck. Go with the #6 Friend and Camalots.

I've played with a big Big Bro on the ground at the Red, and I've never been able to place it in a way that I wouldn't be scared to fall on. I suspect that (like hexes) they work better on granite and 'super clean crack' sandstone like around Moab.
