Has anyone read the latest Rock and Ice? There is an article in there giving some dude press because he just did this tough sport route but did it without using a no-hands rest that the two previous ascentionists used.
Is Rock and Ice getting desperate or what????

Which reminds me...
I saw Captain Static in a Batman suit driving around Cincy in a '74 Chevy Nova made to look like the Batmobile! Written on the side said "Here Comes Batman! - Red River Gorge 1975!"
That was a cool ride Static!

Yes.
It seems to me that like many other outdoor activity magazines, there is this tension between being climbers and magazine publishers etc.
Consumerism/capitalism tends to taint everything it touches.

Rock and Ice has become truely sad and pathetic. Their editorial choices are embarrassing. The climbing mags took a nose dive when Michael Kennedy left Climbing.

On another note with R&I, here's an entertaining rockclimbing.com thread about Thesenga and his controversial Southern Illinois article (drama, drama, and MORE drama):

Holy crap Robin, that Thesenga sure knows how to stir up some contoversy. I remember one of the first articles in Climbing about RRG. It was from the viewpoint of some Euro's and made fun of our fine Appalachian culture. Those Euro's were jonesing because they had a hard time finding cigs & beer that met up with their standards.

I agree with Lurkist on this one, I wish Kennedy the best.

I solved the problem by letting my subscription run out. Don't have to see what
you dont want to read. Why should I care about a bunch of kids sending 5.14,when I climb 5.9?
