Damn, the lower region was so damn beautiful this weekend.
Sitting at the hanging belay on the Cruisemaster prow at Long Wall I saw the most beautiful view of the Red I have ever seen. Raven's Rock off in the distance and all of long wall to my right. The colors were absolutely amazing.

What do you think the prettiest area of the Red is?
Middle? Southern? Lower? Upper?

The view from the top out of Crouching Tiger is really nice right now. I guess that view is toward the 9a direction. How was Cruisemaster?

Scary as hell. I bailed when I arrived at a ledge with a completely uncammed Alien shoved in a pocket at my feet, a bolt five feet beneath that and no gear for as far as I could see.

I think I may be able to contrive some gear at the hand ledge though. All I wanted at the time was to get back to the ground.

This last weekend was definitely THE ONE for fall colors. I drug the whole family down with me to Military on Sun. We drove down the back way through Paris to Winchester. The lower Red is beautiful for sure. I like the upper area also because of the wilderness feel. An example is the view you get up Swift Camp Creek from the top of Prime Directive or from the top of Blister in the Sun.

Since sport routes at th Red rarely top out, I think the trad climber has the advantage for getting the great views. Trad or sport, I many times remind myself to stop and take some time to look around when at the anchors/top, etc.

And you tried to get me to do that route over 2 years ago...HAH!

That wasn't a woodpecker either, it was the sound of my knees knocking together.

That sounds sketchy man. Open aliens in pockets just don't work. I found that out on the original start of fibulator. I've been thinking about CruiseMaster though -- sounds pretty rad -- Arno style!

The view from on top Into the Purple Valley, was fantastic. Anyone know what the two crags you can see from there are?Is one of them teeth butress? The sycamores along the creek almost looked like haze.

I believe that's what they are ynot, Teeth Butress.

Yeah the lower Gorge rocks. The veiw from the top of Purple Valley is very nice indeed. From Into I think you see the Teeth Butress right in front of you, Indian Creek out left and Dip Wall out right (on past teeth). I love checking out that crag for fall color.

The drive out Tarr Ridge had some spectacular color and the views back into the lower Gorge were great.

In my opinion the best spot ever it at Lower Small. If you study the route descriptions you might notice that you can traverse across a good portion of that cliff. So one day, being the adventurous wuss that I am decided to try the Pouge's Path DAB hookup. I found out it goes, and puts you in one of the most spectauclar perches in the Gorge. You can split off of Pouge's Path, cross over the line that is Spider Squat and go thru this hallway like feature that puts you out on a ledge with an amazing view of the Gorge and Skybridge Arch. You could do DAB and then go out left on that perch, but it wouldn't be the same as breaking thru that passage and having the whole Gorge to the east open up before your eyes. My goal was to do DAB and on my way to that goal I found my favorite spot in the entire Gorge.

I dig the top of Minas Tirith... 360 degree view!!
