An open apology

Post by Wes »

To all my climbing partners that I have hazed, teased, begged, pleaded, tricked, shamed, etc into climbing on rainy, snowy, cold, hot, muggy, etc. days over the years. Also, I would like to extend this to all the others that I looked down or made fun of for not climbing outside every single day that they could. I say these things now, because I have turned into a fair weather climber. I am not sure when it happened, but here I am, surfing the net, rather then out climbing on this rainy day. And the odds are I will be at LR tomorrow, after sleeping in, rather then up super early trying to get people to go climb in the rain with me.

Forgive me for not being hard core anymore. I guess I am getting old...

It's okay Wes. You see, all that being hard-core wasn't for nothing-- now, when we truly hardcore people want to climb in the rain, we can come to you for beta. So don't feel bad. It was well worth it on your part, all the wet ropes, slippery jugs and feet, and tears shed when people would pull the sleepingbag covers over their heads rather than get up to climb with you. You've done your part, and you're a better person for it.

Only if you are climbing with the other slackers on team bessie. I will still be up early on good days for sure.

Yas, don't worry, one day you will look outside at the rain, and say "fuck it, let's just sleep in and go find a nice place for brunch". That day may be in a year or two, or maybe tomorrow morning. You just never know when it is going to sneak up on you.

Oh, and when you are ready, I will give you my new, improved rain day beta...

I thought I'd hit that stage, where I could just kick back and not go climbing on those terrible climbing days. But I was wrong.
I'll probably be at military or lf tomorrow, sliding my way up and down the trails.

Don't worry Wes, its just a stage. You'll grow out of it soon enough.
