Reasons we climb...Part Two
Reasons we climb...Part Two
OK folks, this time I'd like to hear about some real reasons you climb, or those hidden "dream sends" you are afraid to admit to for fear of being a spraylord. Fire away, and don't limit yourself to one sentence....I'll start...
Positive vibes brah...positive vibes.
I climb for the defining moments climbing gives me. I climb to overcome fear. I climb to see if a year older means a year weaker. I climb to measure myself against others, and against my former benchmarks. I climb to someday send 5.13.
I climb to feel good about my physique. I climb to bullshit with others and to feel a part of something outside of myself. I climb to spray. I climb to encourage others.
I climb because the fatigue in the joints feels really good the day after. I climb to feel like somebody "unique" in a fast food world.
And one day, I want to send Table of Colors.

I climb because I like it, plain and simple. There are many reasons I like it, which I'm sure many would agree with. The best by-products of climbing have been the amazing friends I have made, especially since when I got back to climbing about 3 years ago, I was completely anti-social.
The thing is, I don't give a crap why anyone else climbs. It's all good. Who cares?

I see it as this - I don't work at climbing, climbing works at me. It is this thing, a living breathing thing and it sits on my shoulder or behind me at work and goes: "GET OFF YOUR ASS AND GET ON SOME ROCK" ever so gently in my ear and makes me want to quit my job and live in the Nada tunnel.....climbing is kinda like my pimp. I give it all my money, it's with me everywhere I go and if it lends me out to someone else, well, I usually pay the price....and the bruises kinda make me look like a roughed up street hooker....

"Listen, you heard what I said. Do you want me to donate or not charlie. Suck it up and procreate." - Andrew

Mostly cause it's fun as hell.
I gave up chasing numbers a long time ago. Even though it'd be nice to climb harder, I'd have to work quite a bit more even to reach my previous high point. For me chasing numbers just led to disappointment so I quit letting it worry me. I measure my climbing prowess on how much fun I have and how much fun my partners have. If you can get up 10's on gear and 11's on bolts then you can pretty much climb anywhere, so that's all I want.
That and good jokes. Climbers are pretty funny.
