Anybody know the cheapest place to get the Rawl 5 piece SS bolts? I'm not in a big hurry so mail order would work.

Just as some info...the bolts are now called Power bolts. The company that manufactured the bolts has changed its name to power fasteners. There is a shop close to my house that sells them for pretty cheap. I got a box of 1\2'' x 3 3\4'' galvanized for i think less than 1.50 a bolt. If you want i could check the price/box or bolt, just tell me what size your lookin for.

What is the "standard" or best length for one of these bolts for the Red? curious n00bs are dying to know!

The prices on the fixe website are rediculous. Some of those bolts are damn expensive.

I would really like to put stainless in. $8.00 a pop is a little on the excessive side. I will only be putting anchors at the top of trad routes I FA so I may just eat it and go on with life. I want them to last for a long time and not need to be replaced in 10 years.

Sometimes they go on sale at mountain gear (mgear.com)...

The standard for the RED is (accdg to the RRGCC website):

"2. Due to the softness of the red Corbin sand stone, recommended hardware is a five piece Rawl-type expansion bolt ½” x 3 3/4” minimum size. "

In some areas, 4" is being used. Of course SS is always better.

There are a lot of other five piece Rawl-type expansion bolts available. I don't think they need to be SS neccesarily... "3. Due to plentiful precipitation, high humidity, and the general moisture in the rock at the Red, stainless steel, or other suitable non-rusting metals or alloys, are recommended for fixed hardware. "


But use SS rap hangers. The best ones for trad routes would be the Metolius SS rap bolt hangers (available at mgear.com for $5.75/pc)... you can order them in a color that will match the rock -- for those who have issues with eyesore.
