Tower Backside/Tower Rock

Post by TimKambitsch »

Thanks in advance for some beta.

Tower Backside @ Tower Rock is supposed to be a 5.3. So on Saturday I was there with a few friends and we could not figure out the route/protection once we got up on the "generous terrace."

I assume that you step up right and then move left on top of the overhang. While there is a thin flake out to the right of that first move, the green moss seemed undistruted out that far and I was thinking it was a bit dicey for a 5.3 route and protection seemed unavailable. Since I am whimp, we bailed and climbed elsewhere, but my ego is calling me back to give it another try.

Can anyonce clarify for me what first move move is and how do you protect it?

Thanks

Tim

I am not sure, but over Memorial Day, I left a knife at the rap tree. I am kind of bitter about it, considering I did not realize its location 'till I got back home.

For the record, I had to use a biner brake to rap down, it was cool to use an 'emergency' technique in a semi-controlled environment.
No big deal.

The flake to the right is totally rotten. The overhang is no 5.3. Ratings are subjective remeber? I started up the same route ,intending to solo it.Looked doable from the ground.I got shut down in the same spot.I cant see whyit wouldn't go on gear, just take some really big stuff.Or do Cavers and toprope it.
I found some booty while I was up there so I wasn't too disapointed.
