Sorry to be the bearer of bad news again, but apparently the break-ins have started already - reports of a break in at the Lode today and Roadside yesterday (or maybe that is reversed) but those two spots, which I know in the past have been targets have been hit already this spring.

Keep your stuff locked up and be careful out there!

uh, this is a weid subject...sometimes its best to keep everything un locked and everything of importance out of your car...had some friends last year at the lode get their cars robbed...one guy had good locks so the thiefs broke the windows

Given this bit of information and the fact that there have been a couple of murders near the Red, I think I'm going to hire a body guard for my next trip. Anybody know that big black dude that hangs around Brittany Spears?

One of those bodies andy was practically in TN. I think Cincinnati is probably as near to the red.

Best to leave everything of any personal value out of your vehicle and leave it unlocked and even open. If you leave anything of interest to them in your locked car they will break the windows and if the can't get into the trunk they'll crow-bar it open.

I wonder how "mary bird watcher" and "joe mountain biker" will feel when they visit the Pendergrass-Murray Recreational Preserve and have all cars robbed! I guess I should get on rrgcc and ask if there is a plan to deal with theives.

I drive a Jeep Wrangler. Not the most secure vehicle. Especially with the top and doors off.

I abide by the following: leave nothing in your vehicle that you don't mind getting stolen. If it's not bolted down, it'll be taken.

That being said, there's alot of companies out there that sell very secure lock boxes (for example Tuffy).

is there any way to secure a standard Thule roof top box, without drawing too much attention to it? (As in making people think there must be something REALLY valuable in it, so they will work harder to get into it.) I'm fairly certain a racoon could jimmy the crappy little lock on it. Leaving it empty and open means it would be easy to take, and those suckers are not inexpensive. Any ideas?

Other than booby trapping it with mace or pepper spray nope.

I'm very interested in suggestions and ideas though. One of those things that I've been wondering about as well.

wes has never had a problem with his thule. and he has been in plenty of unsavory areas. of course his car looks like crap that could help.
