I have to spray for my buddy John, he sent the Golden Piton Award this weekend on his first attempt ever ( link to pic above ).

This route is bad ass!!

25 - 30' scramble
20 ' chimney
10 ' vertical chimney moves to gain lip (and pro)
crazy move into 20' of offwidth hell to gain a ledge
20' of overhanging stemming with fist jams
15' roof weirdness

My favorite part was when he was doing the crux move to get into the offwidth. He had one piece of gear in and had just finished the move and was partially into the offwidth section. He reaches for a #5 cam with his right hand and realizes he can't place it because of body position. He puts the cam back on his sling. Moves a foot takes the cam off again , can't place and puts it back. Keeps going this time until he can place the cam.

Congrats John

Way to go, Johnny! That's beautiful!! I take it this is at a super secret mega crag? If not, PM me the details and I'll add it to the guidebook.

Thanks for the post Rhino and the congrats. I'm happy with my performance. It would have been so easy to just give up and take. It took a lot of patience to figure out how to move up the thing. Tough chicken wings and body scumming.

My shoulder's screwed up. I fell onto a jam with full body weight and I guess partially separated it. I finished the route but could hardly move might right arm to belay. I couldn't climb the rest of the vacation. It's slowly getting better so I'm hopeful it's only a temporary thing.
