I am planning to go camping at the gorge this weekend and was trying to find a place on the that would provide a nice scenic view for myself and a lady friend, but is also far enough off the beaten path to be uncrowded. I don't mind hiking and have heard that Indian Staircase is nice. I would appreciate any help.

Indian Staircase could be pretty crowded. However, I know of a stellar campsite that we used to call tree rock. You go to the Indian Staircase parking area and cross the field. Go up the heinous hill like you were going to Indian Staircase but instead of going left at the path at the top of the hill, go right. You hike on a relatively treacherous trail for about 3-4 miles and there's a camp site up there with a fire ring, etc. Good luck. Have fun with your lady.

Try on top of Long Wall. I have known several people who raked a lot of wool up there. Very purdy and gets the ladies in the mood! wink, wink, nudge, nudge, say no more, aye

Go up the road past Fantasa, park at the Tar Ridge pull out, hike back the trail about 1 mile (easy & flat) to the third side trail on the right. This will put you at a great camp site, it's out on a point with a great view and lots of privacy...This is one of my favorite places to take a woman that is not used to backpacking.

A friend told me about an empty field on top of one of the hills surrounding miguels, i think its the one going up by the parking lot. He said he used to hike up there and camp when miguels got crowded, if im not mistaken.
