jefflehmkuhl ... Tell me a story

Post by Artsay »

I've heard second hand stories about what happened with you on Crankenstein and I just now saw your comment in the online guide. So what really did happen on that route? It sounds like a good story.

Didn't Ben Castle break his leg on Crankentstein too? That route seems to have quite a few *stories* associated with it.

ok, do you ass bags wanna here the story or not??

I went down there with Hampton and some other people (I don't remember who else was there). I said I wanted to get on a 5.10 trad route, they said ok, I got on it. I was about half of the way up the route freakin out cuz the gear I had placed was shit. So, I put in some small stopper, held it in with my finger cuz it didn't like where I put it, and i yelled over to Hampton who was drilling anchors for a climb they had just put up. He yelled back," you might wanna put another piece in" I said."ok". After I put the other piece in I ended up running it out the next forty feet to the ledge because I was too worried I would get pumped and fall if I stopped to dick around with putting more gear in that wouldn't hold a fall anyway. The funny part is that I hate "spiders" with a passion, and when I got to the top I had to crawl through a passageway that was completely filled with "spider" webs. When I got there and saw that, I looked back down to weigh my options of proceeding or jumping. Needless to say, i kept going. Hampton said, "dude, after I turned back around, I hammered a few times, turned back to see where you were, and you were already at the top with no gear in". I think he was a little shocked, I know I was.

So there you dildos, that is my story about Crankenstein. Oh and Gretchen where were you last night??? I thought I was supposed to paddle you for being a bad girl!

Damn, Jeff...
The story I heard was MUCH more exciting.

I belayed Ray on Crankenstein so I've seen how sketchy placing gear on that thing is. The blind placements add a whole other element to that thing and I was terrified just watching.

I heard your gear sucked the whole way up (what gear you placed, that is) and that you pretty much just ran the whole thing out to the top with 100% grounder potential. Everyone watching didn't say a word out of courtesy to not freak you out and just cringed watching you, hence the name of that crack (Courtesy Cringe)Kris was putting anchors on.

I'd not heard any part of this story yet, but it sounds pretty scary to me! Congrats on making it up, and congrats on making it down safely. You met your goal and have a cool story to tell for the rest of your life. Of course, it's only cool since it all worked out. Kids, don't try this at home!
