red river info wanted

Post by akaijen »

I could have sworn that I sent this post yesterday, so I thought I'd try again.

My beau and I are looking to take a last minute road trip next week from the DC area. We've always wanted to visit the Red, but have never had enough days off in a row to get down there, enjoy a few days of climbing and then get back in time for our boring desk jobs.

We're firstly concerned about the weather. Have any locals seen a weather forcast for say... March 18-22nd? It's a long ways to drive to get caught in a late season snow storm. ;)

Secondly, for reasons I won't get into, I'm compelled to bring my dog along on this trip. Are there any dog-friendly approaches and places to stay down there? He's small, so we can scramble with him ok, but am not ready to try rap'ing with him. Also, we don't mind camping with him, but some campgrounds frown on dogs.

Thanks for any info, and here's to lovely weather.

Cheers,
Jen

The weather should be fine....its been pretty warm down there lately so there shouldnt be any snow and if it rains its always possible to find a dry crag. Your dog should be fine. He should be able to handle almost every approach there and if you camp at miguels, there will probably be several more dogs around too. Good luck with the weather.

Everything he said...
Weather has been great and all approaches here are easy. Some climbing areas offer routes up on a second tier and those are probably the only areas your pup won't be able to access easily. Just camp at Miguel's and your dog worries will be obsolete.

Have fun!
Does he have a strange bear claw like appendage protruding from his neck? He kep petting it.

I wanted to ask the same question. What is up with this archaic term suddenly making a come-back?

Spragwa: get over it. The south lost and it will not rise again. See you tonight darlin'

Not archaic - it's French. It might be because I'm Southern, or that I spent a lot of time in Louisiana on top of it, but as an adult I have trouble using the word 'boyfriend.' I'm open to new suggestions. ;)

I have always used the word beau, and I'm not from the south. I agree that it sounds a hell of a lot better than boyfriend. Euros use the word lover but Americans are generally too uptight to embrace the obvious.

Beau comes from "beautiful" in French. Do you really want to say that about a guy? I guess it does sound better than bf.
