north carolina camping

does anybody know of any camping around boone and/or rumbling bald? it needs to be open in early march and cheap if possible.

There is an OK FS pay site on the parkway near G'Mom, and some FS land down a side road past the lost cove. Only pay stuff around the Bald. And those two places are about 2 hours apart, just FYI.

Aaron: The camping down past the Lost Cove is nice and free. I think the road is called Roxboro or Roseboro, can't remember which one. Unfortunately the camping situation at the Rumbling Bald is shit. The only close places are expensive, really expensive, you're better off getting a hotel really. Do not camp at the Bald that will get the place closed down. If you have a truck or car to sleep in I can give you the scoop on a couple of good places to park. PM me if you are interested or need more specifics.
