Anyone around here ever climbed at Acadia National Park in Maine? Mid to late June, climb sea cliffs, hike, boulder, camp in or around the park. Any thoughts?

I used to live up there - hiked around it alot - was before I learned how to climb - I can get some info to you probably. I can say that it's got some amazing views - it's a really awesome place. Mid to late June should be a good time of year. Bar Harbor is a cool tourist stop off too.

Yeah I'm trying to garnish info from the net. Found some ok links here and there and some good shots. Also found the guidebooks which I'll have to get if we end up going there. Hoping the ocean breeze will keep the blackflys and mosquitos away during that part of the summer.

Hey...that is a two hour drive for me, so if you are there...we ought to hook up!
The climbing is stellar, the bouldering is also very good. you'll have lots of mosquitos and blackflies that time of year on the trails, but the water front climbing should be fine.

The camping is expensive, and there are lots of people patrolling around to make sure you don't poach any campsites.

You can camp about 30 min away in Clifton ME, where there is also great climbing! the camping there is roadside and free. Climbing in Clifton is on beautiful white feldspar granite. It is super sharp and cool to climb on. Lots of slabs and sport.

Don't forget to take a bike (or rent one when you are there) for off days. The carriage roads are very fun and the carriage road system is pretty extensive and easily accessed by using the park's public transportation. Acadia is a great place and offers a nice variety of stuff to do if you have a non-climber with you.

Steve, we were up there a couple summers ago, last week of June. Great weather and no blackflies by then. You picked a good time. The prices jump the 4th of July!We climbed at Otter Cliff , awesome and right on the ocean! But the best climbing was on the Precipice, 200ft of clean granite with spectacular topout views! Wanting to do it again this June if we can swing it.

Leaving tonite to escape the heat and humidity of the southeast for the yankees and mosquitos of the northeast. 20 something hour car trip....should be fun!

Acadia is awesome. I went climbing there 7 or 8 years ago in early May. Bring a crashpad too. The hike from the beach to Otter Cove is blessed with an abundance of great granite right off the ocean. Some of the tallest cliffs along the Atlantic coast north of Brazil. Don't miss Otter Cliffs.

Acadia was super cool. Climbed a little, not enough, and did a whole lotta of other stuff. It was awesome to climb right by the sea on this slightly polished solid granite. Got to test out my new digital camera, but didn't get a lot of climbing pics. We climbed, ate lobster, mountain biked, did the tourist thing, climbed Katahidin, and drove a lot. It was a blast!
