It kind of sucks when someone gets banned.
I got kind of pissed because it sucks to see good people like Jeff leave the board because of all the crap going on. On the other hand, it sucks to see people say my site sucks because we ban people. I feel like an old guy parent or something when I see people bitching about that. I don't want the site to be nazi but at the same time I don't want the site to ban people left and right. I just want the site to be kind of in the middle.
All of us take the heat when someone is banned and that sucks because usually it has nothing to do with our personal feelings toward the person being banned. From what I knew of him, Joe was a cool dude. He donated a cool map to the site and wrote some interesting stuff. But threatening rape (even though he was not serious) truly offends some people and if we don't act on it then due diligence is not shown for such a serious threat.
So I think that from now on we're going to give people one warning before they're banned. That way it's not a big surprise and people don't get all pissed off.
