in case some people didn't hear...our little gal from cincy was running with the big guns(not the first time) out in Boulder.
PCA BOULDER BRAWL (Rock & Ice)
Nels Rosaasen had a problem at the November 8 Boulder Brawl. As one spectator, Rob Candelaria, put it: "All the holds were too big for him!"
Two questions hung in the air at The Spot Climbing Gym that night: Would Rosassen rip it up again or would Chris Sharma put the slap down? Could 14-year-old Alex Johnson, who started out strong last year and dominated all season, hang on to her number-one ranking?
No answers: Sharma was in Mallorca, and neither Johnson nor another champ, Lisa Rands, turned up--the event was open.
Rosaasen slipped on the first two problems, set on the gym's Fontainebleau Boulder. Then he headed for the two on the imposing Hueco Boulder, and just couldn't come off. He might do a sequence wrong, but he'd keep firing, solid and excited. Rising to second was Ethan Pringle, 17, and not "little" Ethan Pringle anymore, with the bright talent Rob D'Anastasio third.
Among women, pride of place went to Angela Payne, a Robyn Erbesfield protégé, of Boulder, celebrating her 19th birthday. She absolutely hiked all four problems. Only she and Natasha Barnes fired them all, with Payne winning on countback, and Portia Menlove third. See www.pcatour.com for full results.
