I'm curious how many climbers on this forum participate in the ABS comps....and if you do, where is your favorite gym to compete? And if you don't, is there a reason? And if you don't give a shit, well....I don't know...don't reply!

Garageclimber has given a significant portion of his soul to compete. You won't get any play though. He's got a girlfriend and he's gay!!!

ClimbTime cincy is the best place for an ABS bouldering comp. I've had fun at UrbanKrag too..
But everybody knows the coolest comps are always at Vertical Adventures!

I've been participating in Miami's ABS comp the past 3 years, and back in 2001 I participated in the one at Urban Krag, too. I know a lot of people don't like the climbing comp atmosphere, but I like the fact that the adrenaline rush I get while participating allows me to get problems I wouldn't get on an ordinary day.

Since I helped judge at the ABS comp at Lexington Rocks on 17 Oct. I'll throw my $.02 in there.
The atmosphere was amazing and very positive. Everyone was putting off good vibes. Since I was judging I could only watch one section of the comp but I watched one guy attempt a problem about 7 times till he finally made the crux move and fired it from there. Everyone that was around started cheering him on once he made that move. Like I said very positive.
The only bad thing about the comp at LR was that there was too many people for such a small space. If you've been to the bouldering area there you would know what I mean. However that couldn't be helped.
Now why I didn't compete. I don't climb for fame or fortune or girls. I do it for me. I don't need to compete against anyone else. It's hard enough competing against myself and my expectations I don't need to try and measure myself against anyone else. (I'd get depressed really fast

Not even for the hippie chicks. I don't use climbing as a way to "show off" to girls. Though if I do meet a pretty little senorita at the crag...
