I'm getting a male black lab this weekend and haven't yet come up with a name. Does anyone have any climbing term names or other good suggestions?

we had a black lab named Raven, and a friend had one named Carbon (he was a caver back in the day of carbon headlamps). A climber friend of ours had a great dog named Crag.

My sissy dog is named Isabel.

I think a great name for a dog that will be hanging out at sport crags would be "Take." You should name him that and then call him a lot and enjoy the mayhem.

Call him "Stay".
Just don't try to call him.

I typically wait until I have the animal for a month or two, check out their little personality then name them.

Best wishes to you on your new friend!

We got our dog, Tika, right after Ray's dog, Tucker, died. We made up her name on the way home from getting her because it sounded like the feminine to Tucker. :) Failed to realize there's a headlamp with the same name. Ah well....

When I got my cat Love Bug I orginally called her Lover because she is the sweetest lap cat ever then I found out that her favorite past time is killing bugs, hence Love Bug. My other caat Jordan, named after Michael because she had one hell of a verticle leap! In a crouch position she could jump to the top of my refridgerator, let alone leap around my house. Just some examples.

My understanding is that dogs respond well to dames with harsh syllables. My dog Dakota will answer to Kota. It's the hard K that she primarily hears. Of course, we had a keeshond named "hobbit" once and she responded...no hard syllables there. You could name the dog Pocket in effigy of Pocket Wall.
