In early November a friend and I attempted Caver's Route at Tower Rock. After the first two pitches, before what I now know would be the 'cave' section, we were lost on where to go next (we were going off some word-of-mouth beta.) We decided to rappel off a chock stone, and the rope got stuck. Amateur? Absolutely, I'll be the first to admit that I am super green! My first time climbing anything was in early 2015, and Caver's was the second climb I've led; I am proud of my progress over the course of this season and looking forward to where climbing may take me in the future. What I love most about the climbing community is that I feel very unashamed to admit this, I have only encountered support in this sport thus far! I digress...

I left a note with my contact info taped to the rope since I had to leave Kentucky the following day. I was contacted by a really nice guy named Tom from Michigan a couple days later, notifying me that he had recovered my rope! What a relief, I could pick it up from his friend's place at Land of the Arches Campground he told me. Bummer I had already returned to California. Long/short, Tom has stopped answering or returning my calls, I now just get his voicemail asking me what my favorite animal is. I miss the rope and miss climbing! I am still holding out hope that Tom is just a busy person who hasn't found the time to get back to me about shipping the rope out here, but sometimes I fear it could be something else.

Do you know Tom? Have you seen him climbing with a fairly new blue 70m Mammut 9.8mm rope? If you have, could you tell him Luke really misses climbing? That is all, thanks for taking the time to read folks.

Why would you leave your rope in the first place. Definitely booty expensive lesson learned.

old school, tough guy, hardman trad ethics or not -- that's kind of a shitty approach to life and dealing with other people. oh, sorry you made a mistake, i'm gonna help you learn from it by stealing your shit.

i pulled a near brand new draw (full quickdraw!) off a climb the other day which i was psyched for, but if someone had written a note on it i would've been happy to give it back to them cuz i'm not a dickbag.

Eh, I wouldn't apply your personal lack of common decency and respect for others to the climbing community as a whole. Best of luck with all that in your personal relations though!

I read the post I still don't understand the reason for leaving there is multiple ways to get it back.

Although if I found a rope with a note attached I would return it.

Luke sorry ya lost your rope. But we all saw that coming. Your biggest mistake was posting on here that You lost it on an easy route. I know that it don't make right but people suck climbers are no different. There was prolly a race from miggs to to get it. Also there is a rap anchor slightly above the cave out on the ledge. Full of tat, links and biners makes for a nice escape.
Next time don't be so quick to bail. Look around stay calm. You were on an old 5.3 that many solo. Your skills as a rock climber should have got you to the top and your rope back. And for God's sake don't post on here. Sorry to be so harsh. You will learn from this. Hopefully you will get your rope back.

It sounds like "Tom" made a sufficient effort. He contacted you and told you where the rope is. Pretty nice for a stranger finding another strangers rope. Have you tried contacting the folks at LOA? Sometimes we have to stop blaming others for our actions.

Luckily the chockstone held!
