Partner(s) needed between 8/7/15 - 8/19/15

I'm from the Netherlands and visiting the U.S. on a work related trip. Hoping to squeeze in some climbing so I'm planning to come to RRG for 12 days. Interested in sport leading 5.11s and low 5.12s.

Also wondering if anyone can give me some advice on this: I'm from the Netherlands and I'll be flying to and from Nashville airport (where I need to be for work-related reasons). I'm investigating whether I'd be able to do this trip to RRG without renting a car. I could bus to Lexington, but from there I'd need to hitch a ride to the RRG. Do you think there'd be enough people around at Miguel's to find climbing partners and rides to climbing areas?

Lexington is about 40 - 45 minuites from Miguels. You might be able to find a ride but it would take some effort and Luck as someone would be looking at driving 45 min to pick you up and 45 min back. It might be much easier to find someone at Miguels to take you back to Lexington.

While there would be people at Miguel's, and you probably would be able to get partners and rides to crags, once you are at Miguel's, August is the off season, and in my experience you are less likely to have single climbers hanging around looking for partners at this time of the year, more likely to see big groups that are not looking to add anyone to their group.
Still, it's possible...

I think renting a car is your best bet. But maybe you can go to the climbing gym in Nashville one evening, while you are doing your work-related thing, and see if you can meet anyone there wanting to go to the Red, and willing to let you drive to the Red with them. Even if they are only going for the weekend, it would get you to the Red, and then you can find a ride back to lexington, and a bus from there, on the way back.

I agree. You should rent a car.

I think you would find a ride back to Lexington no problem pretty much everyone drives through there. Getting to Miguel's Needs some luck though. Also think you won't have a problem finding partners. I will probably be there one of those weekends atleast.

I'll see if I can find a solution to getting to Miguel's, and if not, rent a car anyway. Thanks for the replies. Would be awesome if we could do some routes when you're there, mourz!

Hi bastiaan

I'm in a similar situation, visiting the U.S. from Sweden, and would like to go climbing with you between around August 12-17. I climb the same grades as you, and would be willing to share the cost of a rental car the days we go climbing if you can find a relatively cheap one :) Let me know if you're interested!

Cheers
Albin

You might try contacting the Daniel Boone Trading Post
769 Natural Bridge Rd Slade, KY 40376‎
(606) 663-2549

At one time they indicated they were considering a shuttle from Lex to the gorge. Not sure what it costs. It's an easy walk (1 km) from there to Miguels - but they would probably go the extra bit if they are operating in August.

what the heck is a (km?) We in the US of A use real units of measurement, like you'll burn one Krispy Kreme walking there. Or half a big mac there and back.
